Shopify Theme Development
Most stores outgrow their theme long before anyone says it out loud. We build custom Shopify and Plus frontends, add the bits your team keeps asking for, and leave you with code the next developer will actually thank you for.
Themes, apps, integrations and migrations, built properly.
Usually a fixed-scope project. Bigger builds get split into phases so you're never waiting three months to see something.
Your theme is fighting you.
Nobody plans for this. You picked a theme, it did the job, and then the business moved on and the theme didn't. Here's how it usually shows up.
Every change needs a developer.
Adding a section to a landing page turns into a ticket, a quote and a two-week wait. Your marketing team has quietly stopped asking.
It's held together with apps.
Fourteen of them, six doing something the theme could do natively, all adding scripts to every page. The site got slower and nobody can say when.
You've been quoted for a full rebuild.
Maybe you need one. Often you don't — a lot of what feels broken is two or three templates and a checkout flow. We'd rather find that out first.
Plan it, build it, hand it over properly.
No mystery and no black box. You'll watch it come together, and you'll know how to run it once we're gone.
- 01Week 1
Get our bearings
We go through the store you've got — the theme, the apps, the bits held together with tape — and talk to whoever uses it day to day. That conversation usually changes the scope, in a good way.
A scope you've read and agreed, with the awkward bits flagged early.
- 02Weeks 2–6
Build
We work in small pieces on a preview theme you can look at whenever you like. Sections get built to be reused, so the next landing page needn’t involve us at all.
A preview link that's always current.
- 03Before launch
Break it on purpose
Real devices, real browsers, real edge cases — long product titles, sold-out variants, discount codes that shouldn't stack. Much better that we find it than a customer does.
A QA pass across devices, and speed numbers before and after.
- 04Launch week
Launch and hand over
We go live at a sensible time of day, watch the numbers for a bit, then walk your team through everything on a call we record so you can rewatch it.
A store your team can edit without ringing us.
Everything from the homepage to the thank-you page.
If it's in the storefront, it's fair game.

The questions we always get asked
Do we have to start from scratch?
Usually not. Plenty of our best work has been on a theme the client already had. We'll look first and tell you honestly which is the better spend — a rebuild is a big number and it isn't always the right one.
How long does a build take?
Six to ten weeks for most stores, front to back. Smaller pieces land in days. If we think it'll take longer, you'll hear that in the quote rather than in week seven.
Can our team still edit the site afterwards?
That's rather the point. We build sections rather than hard-coded pages, so your marketing team can put a landing page together on a Tuesday without opening a ticket.
What about all our apps?
We'll go through them with you. Some are doing real work; some are doing something the theme could do natively and faster. We'll tell you which is which and you decide what goes.
Do you work alongside our existing developer?
Happily — we do a fair bit of work with in-house teams and other agencies. We'll match your conventions rather than impose ours.
